Renovation Adds ORs to Texas Medical Center

Project is part of systemwide investment that adds space for general and OB/GYN surgeries

By HFT Editorial Staff

Christus Southeast Texas Health System in Beaumont recently expanded access to surgical services at its Outpatient Pavilion St. Elizabeth. The expansion adds two new operating rooms, bringing the total operating room count to eight. The build-out of these two rooms has been planned since the center’s opening in 2004 and is a part of a systemwide investment that adds space for general and OB/GYN surgeries.

These new rooms have been equipped with new state-of-the-art technology, including a camera system that allows surgeons to view and record the surgical site from virtually any orientation or angle. The rooms are also equipped with an operating room ceiling system that helps mitigate the risk of airborne particles and improves patient safety, significantly lowering the risks of infections.

The new operating rooms are designed to allow surgeons to offer minimally invasive alternatives for complex gynecologic and general procedures, including cases with a robotic surgery system. One of the operating rooms was designed to be dedicated to robotic surgery.

As the first to bring robotic surgery to Southeast Texas nearly seven years ago, the health system has seen robotic surgeries grow. More patients can utilize this surgical option, and additional physicians continue to become trained and certified. To date, St. Elizabeth has 12 robotic surgeons who have performed more than 4,000 surgeries.
