San Leandro Hospital begins on-site MRI service

Alameda Health System (AHS) announced that San Leandro Hospital is now offering on-site Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services with its new mobile unit. The mobile unit allows San Leandro Hospital to provide outpatient and inpatient MRI services within the local community, avoiding the need for a patient to travel out of the area.

MRIs are non-invasive imaging procedures that help physicians diagnose and treat a variety of complex medical conditions. The imaging units are commonly sought for diagnoses of brain and spinal injuries and results are often available within 24 hours.

"The mobile MRI unit allows us to provide an important medical imaging service that is faster and more convenient for our patients," said Dr. Steven Rosenthal, Associate Chief Medical Officer of San Leandro Hospital. "This advanced medical technology helps us provide critical testing for our patients and provides their physicians with the ability to develop treatment plans right away. This is yet another indication of the value and investment that San Leandro Hospital is contributing to the community."

The mobile MRI unit is housed at San Leandro Hospital every Tuesday and Thursday from 8 am to 4:30 pm. Inpatients are given medical priority with an expectation of 20 outpatient appointments served per month.

The unit is also stationed at Alameda Hospital, a member of AHS, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
