Small mistakes can spread hospital infections

The use of personal protective equipment is challenge for many healthcare facilities

A new study says the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is a challenge in many healthcare facilities and new strategies are needed, according to an article on the MD website.

Researchers reported 102 deviations from safe practices or procedures. Common violations included entering rooms without some or all of the recommended PPE.

The study also noted 144 process or procedural mistakes, which the investigators called “failures of intention.”

There were also 37 "slips," which the study called failures of execution. Some of these were touching one’s face or clean areas while donning contaminated gloves or gowns.
