Smartphones replace pagers at N.H. hospital

Catholic Medical Center uses phones with apps designed to streamline patient care

Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, N. H., has replaced its pager system with smartphones with apps designed to streamline patient care, according to an article on the New Hampshire Union Leader website.

"When you walk through the units you can notice that it’s considerably more quiet,” Jennifer Torosian, CMC executive director of nursing, said. “We’re able to place patients by using those phones and text messages. Instead of 10 different phone calls, it’s one text message to the unit and then one text message back most of the time.”

The phones can be programmed to deliver the information to specific people and broken down by department, distributing it securely through the in-house system.

Staff can be anywhere in the building  and they’ll can get a text or a phone call. The app can pull up the list of users and see who’s on or who’s busy and who’s not available.
