BIM, other technologies improving building performance


Facility managers are beginning to take advantage of building information modeling's (BIM) potential as a post-construction tool through the life of the building, according to an article on the Health Facility Management website.

Used to enhance computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), BIM includes data on asset names, model numbers and warranty information and can include hyperlinks to information on equipment and maintenance procedures, the article said. 

BIM is just one example of the new and evolving technologies being used by facilities professionals.

Software that measures energy consumption, smartphones and tablets that help facility managers to track equipment, and many more new technologies are helping facility managers, the article said.
