Technology saves Toronto hospital $3.2 million a year in energy costs

For instance, patient rooms feature an integrated bedside terminal that can, among other things, change the temperature in their room

When building the healthcare facility, the team at the Humber River Hospital designed energy-saving systems throughout the facility to cut down on costs while creating a comforting and comfortable facility, according to an article on the Buildings website.

Cutting-edge technology helps in the success of these systems

For instance, patient rooms feature an integrated bedside terminal. With it, the nurse or physician can show results and vital signs, and patients can order meals, change the temperature in their room, raise or lower their bed, change the window shading or use the internet to play games or listen to the radio.

“We use technology to drive action through interoperability, which has allowed us to use closed-loop communication systems to implement analytics and to begin to use artificial intelligence in our processes,” Barbara Collins, president and CEO of Humber River Hospital, said in the article.
