Healthcare IT leaders who participated in Politico's health IT advisory forum said hospitals are far from realizing the full promise of telemedicine, according to an article on the Politico website.
Participants said that telemedicine and other new technologies were improving access to care and opening up new possibilities for home health.
But they agreed that healthcare's "Uber moment" — where the vast majority of consumers feel comfortable using apps to get on-demand consults and care — isn't here yet.
One CEO cited the example of Banner Health, a health system that reduced hospitalizations and long-term care stays in its highest-cost chronic care patients by 27 percent after giving them health apps and remote monitoring tools.
