The end of net neutrality will impact healthcare

Telehealth, cloud-based EHRs and remote monitoring connectivity could all be affected

Telehealth, cloud-based EHRs and remote monitoring connectivity could all be affected by the end of net neutrality, according to an article on the Healthcare IT News website.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) hasn't yet overturned existing net neutrality rules, but the Republican-led agency is expected to soon, the article said.

The American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) sent a letter to the FCC, urging it to count access to broadband as a key social determinant of health.

"FCC has a critical role in ensuring that Americans benefit from the electronic health infrastructure that was initiated with the passage of the HITECH Act and supported by the 21st Century Cures Act," AMIA officials said.
