Banner-University Medical Center Tucson was not accepting Level 1 trauma patients after an electrical malfunction involving a hospital transformer/panel, according to an article on the Tucson website.
The Level One trauma team was transferred temporarily to Banner's other Tucson hospital, the UMC-South Campus.
The problems began with a smoldering in an electrical panel in the basement.
Tucson Fire Department crews were able to determine that an overloaded circuit breaker may have caused the outage. Fire department crews and hospital personnel worked to dissipate the smoke in the hospital.
