Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, a 525-bed healthcare facility in Norfolk, Va., redesigned its 14,000-square-foot cafeteria to offer restaurant-style food service, according to an article on the FoodService Equipment & Supplies website.
The project included higher-end food service equipment to deliver a from-scratch, healthier, restaurant-style menu.
Since the remodeled cafeteria opened in August 2016 sales have grown 12 percent. The cafeteria now attracts additional customers from nearby medical facilities.
Doors were removed to create a wider, open space with a range of food stations preparing sandwiches on bread baked in-house, pizzas, rotisserie chicken and meats, and barbecue.
