WHO's guidelines for infection prevention

Healthcare facilities are continually challenged by healthcare-associated infections


The World Health Organization (WHO) recently updated guidelines for the core components of an effective infection prevention program, according to an article on the Becker's Infection Control & Clinical Quality website.

The latest guidelines are designed to be applicable to all healthcare organizations. 

Two of WHO's eight core components for infection prevention programs are:

• Staff education should be a key component of the infection prevention program. Educational efforts should include bedside simulations designed to put HAI reduction strategies into practice.

• Hospital-acquired infection rates should be tracked both within the facility and on a national scale
