Public Health Seattle & King County will soon require healthcare facilities in King County, Wash., to report hospital associated Aspergillus infections, according to the KOMO News website.
Individual cases of Aspergillus currently are not reported. But outbreaks of the fungus, which are two or more healthcare-related cases, are reportable.
The mandate comes after the recent news that over 18 years, Seattle Children’s has had 14 patients develop Aspergillus mold infections, six of whom died.
The mold was most recently found in three operating rooms on November 10.
