Nevada hospitals add armed guards after shooting

Armed security guards are coming to two Renown Health hospitals in Reno, Nev., after a fatal shooting last year

Armed security guards are coming to two Renown Health hospitals in Reno, Nev., after a fatal shooting of a doctor last year, according to an article on the Reno Gazette-Journal website.

Two others were injured in the attack before the gunman killed himself.

The armed guards are part of Renown's enhanced safety program that includes more staff training, more control over building access and faster lock-down capabilities.

Renown is contracting with G4S, a hospital and business security firm, to provide two armed guards at one campus — one in the adult emergency room and one to patrol the campus — and a third in the emergency room at Renown's other hospital.

All three positions will be staffed around the clock.
