On or about June 8, 2025, Whitfield Regional Hospital detected unauthorized access to its network that resulted in the potential exposure of a limited amount of data it maintains. Upon learning of this issue, Whitfield immediately secured its network, reported the incident to law enforcement and commenced a thorough investigation. As part of its investigation, it has been working very closely with external cybersecurity professionals experienced in handling these types of incidents. 

Following the completion of our investigation, it was determined on June 26, 2026 that the impacted files may have contained some personal information. Elements of personal information varied per individual but included: first and last name, date of birth, Social Security Number, driver’s license number, financial account information, medical information and health insurance information.  

Out of an abundance of caution, in accordance with state and federal law, commencing on July 17, 2026, Whitfield Regional Hospital notified individuals whose information may have been included in the files accessed by the unauthorized party. Notified individuals have been provided with best practices to protect their information.  

Whitfield Regional Hospital will continually evaluate and modify its practices and internal controls to enhance the security and privacy of personal information and will continue to do so following this incident.
