AirBNB-style company could change healthcare

Software allows different hospitals within the same healthcare system to share expensive surgical equipment

Cohealo, a fast-growing software company, allows different hospitals within the same healthcare system to share expensive surgical equipment, and ultimately save money, according to an article on the CNBC website.

Basically the AirBnB for hospital equipment, the company's software tracks  medical equipment and provides real-time updates to let hospitals know where the machinery is, its availability and how much it is being used. It's a combination of analytics and logistics for hospitals to share non-emergency surgical equipment.

Usually, hospitals had to either buy or rent expensive equipment. Sharing the equipment is a total game changer, the article said. So far, Cohealo has contracts with three of the five top healthcare systems in the country.

"We think we have found a perfect storm of inefficiency. Health systems and hospitals either own too much of something or not enough of the other, but they don't have exactly what they need. We are hoping by linking it together…we can find the perfect balance," Cohealo CEO Mark Slaughter said.
