According to a blog on the Long-Term Living website, one of the most overlooked components in an "active shooter" response policy in a long-term care facility is the care and well-being of the residents. The standard “run, hide, fight” advice from the Department of Homeland Security doesn't work. A facility's "active shooter" response policy cannot insist staff members remain in danger, but leaving the residents to fend for themselves is not a good idea either, the blog said.
