ECRI list of healthcare innovations includes medical device cybersecurity

Cybersecurity gained greater attention in 2015 after the Hospira Symbiq Infusion System was hacked


The ECRI Institute's latest list of healthcare innovations includes medical device cybersecurity, according to an article on the MedScape website

In its Top 10 Health Technology Hazards for 2015, the ECRI Institute recommended that a hospital or health system clinical engineering, risk management, and information technology departments jointly take steps to mitigate cybersecurity threats.

The US Food and Drug Administration will host a public workshop January 20-21 to discuss collaborative approaches to medical device cybersecurity. 

Blue-violet LED light fixtures were also mention on the list as possibly helping to prevent hospital-acquired infections.
