They are:

Before touching a patient.

• Before clean and aseptic procedures (e.g., inserting devices such as catheters).
• After contact with body fluids.
• After touching a patient.
• After touching patient surroundings.
• Tracking improvements

Auditing is an important method of performance measurement for hand hygiene compliance. It can be conducted by independent auditors, with software that has mobile functionality or through peer review.
