Hospitals Impacted by Winter Weather

Freezing temperatures leave hospitals with low water pressure.

By HFT Staff

Hospitals and other healthcare facilities are still fighting off challenges brought on by winter storm Elliot. The storm, which brought record-low temperatures to the Midwest, East Coast and parts of the South over the holiday weekend, has compromised the infrastructure of many states, leading government officials to declare states of emergency.

In Memphis, city officials placed a boil water advisory to citizens as the city worked to repair 30 water main breaks that contributed to low water pressure. Fire departments across the region are helping pump water into local hospitals to keep up water pressure, according to WREG Memphis.

Despite efforts to maintain hospitals, Regional One Health closed outpatient clinics due to the low water pressure.

Meanwhile, Cincinnati is also facing water troubles of its own. Cincinnati Children’s closed Building A at its Mason location due to a water issue caused by below-freezing temperatures. The closure is expected to last through Jan. 2, 2023.
