After terrorist attacks in Brussels in late March, the United States Department of Homeland Security and Health and Human Services recently put out a joint resource for healthcare providers, according to the Joint Commission website.
The Joint Commission has updated its Emergency Management portal to include new information under the Violence/Security/Active Shooter section.
Suggested actions for preparing staff in the event of an attack include:
• Reviewing security plans and conducting exercises of them regularly
• Reviewing drills for active shooter, suspicious activity reporting or counter improvised explosive device preparedness
• Ensuring emergency communications equipment is functioning properly
