Key hand-hygiene strategies include easy access to sanitizer

When hand hygiene products are easy to access, compliance with requirements improves


Four big-picture strategies from the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America includes increased access to and acceptance of hand sanitizer and soaps, according to an article on the Becker's Hospital Review website.

Sanitizer dispensers should be available at the point of care, not just on the unit or in a work area, to be compliant with the World Health Organization Five Moments of Hand Hygiene, the article said.

Other strategies include promoting a disciplined approach to compliance, monitoring and evaluating progress and building hand hygiene compliance into the culture of patient safety.
