Operational technology could create hacking vulnerabilities

Devices and systems connected to cyber networks need to be evaluated


Healthcare facilities may be exposing themselves to attacks through the operational technology connected to their networks, according to an article on the Campus Security website.

Operational technology includes systems like climate control, access control, lighting, video surveillance, aspects of electrical infrastructure and more.

Many institutions have invested in "smart" systems that can optimize the performance of buildings. But managers should look at every device that’s connected to their network as a potential avenue of attack.

Institutions using OT systems should seek to lower their systems’ online footprint as much as possible.
