As colder weather drives pests indoors at healthcare facilities, integrated pest management minimizes the risk of infestations, according to an article on the FacilityCare website.

Healthcare facilities are at the biggest risk of winter invasions by a range of pests, including:

• Cockroach allergens are usually introduced through saliva, droppings and their decomposing bodies. Cockroaches also spread dozens of kinds of bacteria, six kinds of parasitic worms and at least seven other kinds of human pathogens.

• Rodents defecate constantly and can easily contaminate food and food preparation surfaces

• Ants can be dangerous contaminants to food
