Real-time locating system can reduce patient wait times

System that uses small locating badges worn by both patients and employees

Real-time locating system (RTLS) can reduce patient wait times and streamline workflow, according to an article on the Health Facilities Maintenance website.

An RTLS can use small, lightweight locating badges worn by both patients and employees.

It can be integrated with electronic health records and lab and scheduling systems and, combined with a rules-based workflow engine, can automatically update electronic whiteboards.

The system can inform staff of:

• Which rooms are available or in need of turnover

• Where patients are, how long they’ve been waiting and
what services they need

• Who has seen the patient and who patients still need to see
