Skilled nursing facility creates own TV station

Archie Hendricks Sr. Skilled Nursing Facility honored for technology that helps residents feel part of the nursing home and native communities

The Archie Hendricks Sr. Skilled Nursing Facility, located on the Tohono O'odham Reservation in southern Arizona, has taken the Gold in the Dignity category of the McKnight's Excellence in Technology Awards, according to an article on the McKnight's website.

The facility created a television station to help residents feel part of the nursing home and native communities.

The facility broadcasts culturally relevant and tribal-specific events to all the facility's TVs. The broadcasts are recorded in the facility and remotely. Cultural events happening in community are live-streamed. The facility also has used iPads to enable long-distance visits with another Native American skilled nursing facility.
