Staff and visitors can play a role by reducing the amount of noise produced in the first place


In a healthcare facility, much of the responsibility for noice reduction rests with the hospital’s absorptive ceiling tiles, a well-planned layout and sound masking. However, occupants can also play a key role by reducing the amount of noise produced in the first place, according to an article on the FacilityCare website.

When involving people in noise reduction strategies, the first step is to form a committee specifically tasked with studying noise and developing methods to address it, the article said.

Members should then educate visitors, patients and staff about noise and its effects on healing and enforce noise reduction policies.

One method of raising awareness of noise and its effects is to hang posters throughout the facility. It is particularly important to remind occupants to consider their voice level.
