A study recently assessed the impact of a World Health Organization (WHO)-recommended multimodal hand-hygiene campaign at a hospital in Ethiopia and found a significant increase in adherence among healthcare workers (HCW) following the implementation of the initiative, according to an article on the Infection Control Today website.
The study included a before-and-after assessment of (HCW) adherence with WHO guidelines. The researchers found a significant increase in hand-hygiene adherence among HCWs following the WHO-recommended multimodal hand-hygiene campaign.
Dissatisfaction with the current WHO-formulation for hand sanitizer was identified as a barrier to hand-hygiene adherence in this setting, the article said.
