Surgeries cancelled after burst pipe floods Ontario hospital

St. Mary's Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, and it's neighbors face days of cleanup

Cleanup continues at St. Mary's General Hospital after a burst pipe over the weekend caused extensive flooding in the basement, prompting staff to redirect ambulances to other local hospitals and restrict visitors, according to an article on The Record.

As restoration crews cleaned up at the hospital, water and gas supplies to the hospital were shut off.

Initially, elevator access was only available to the fourth floor, but by the evening, one elevator was fully operational and accessible on all 10 floors.

All surgical procedures for at least Monday were cancelled but the hospital remains open and patient care is not affected.

A City of Kitchener spokesperson said the volume of water may have caused the sewage backup floods in a few of the area's private homes. She did not know how many homes were affected or the extent of the damage caused.
