A European perspective on healthcare laundry infection control

Barrier concept is designed to prevent cross-contamination

The European barrier concept solution and laundry cycle management system offer sustainability to healthcare facilities, according to part one of an article on the American Laundry News website.

The barrier concept is the best way to prevent cross-contamination with physical separation, the article said. The dirty side of the laundry is separated by a physical wall from the clean side.

Washers are equipped with a double door system, and both doors can’t be opened at the same time. Operators and carts on the dirty side only touch dirty linen.

Dirty linen comes into the dirty side and is stored there, waiting to be sorted. Employees sort the linen and load the barrier washers. The barrier washers are loaded according to where the items will be finished.

Check back tomorrow for part two of the article.
