STAT published a list of waterborne pathogens with bite

In recognition of "Shark Week," STAT published a list of waterborne pathogens more potentially dangerous than sharks, according to an article on the Becker's Infection Control and Clinical Quality website.

STAT's waterborne pathogens to know include:

•  Cryptosporidium. Outbreaks attributed to this parasite more than doubled in the U.S. from 14 in 2014 to 32 in 2016.

•  Legionella. These bacteria can be transmitted in plumbing fixtures.

•  Norovirus. The virus can spread via contact with the fecal matter of infected people, which can contaminate surfaces, food and water.
